Commitment to you:

Koigu is committed to creating designs and yarn which are accessible and inclusive for all makers. We do not support hate speech, and do not believe it has a place in our making community. At Koigu we strive to work globally with a diverse group of both yarn shops and designers, and will continue to work towards growing and learning from our community.

At Koigu, the Landra family donates monthly to primarily local charities, focussed on supporting women, indigenous communities, animal protection and BIPOC associations. We have been doing this as a family since before Koigu was founded, and during the beginning years of Koigu when money was scarce, we would donate more of our time and product donations. If there is a group, or community that you believe could benefit from a monetary or product donation, please email kersti@koigu.com

As we continue to publish patterns we are working to expand our sizes to be all inclusive of many sizes. If you find a Koigu pattern that has yet to be resized, please contact us at patterns@koigu.com and we would be happy to resize the pattern for you. The majority of Koigu designs are modelled by Kersti, and she is 5,11 size L/XL.

Where is Koigu Located?

We are located 2 and a 1/2 hours north of Toronto, on a farm in Chatsworth Township. All yarn is sourced from a mill in England, and then hand dyed, reeled and twisted on the Koigu farm.

How Many Employees does Koigu have?

Koigu have 4 full time employees and some seasonal part time employees. All Koigu employees are local to our area, and are immediately added to the Koigu family. Much of the yarn dying continues to be done by Taiu, with support from Kersti and Maie inn various other areas of the business.

How is Koigu Hand-painted?

At Koigu we hand dye our yarn in 1kg hanks, which we then reel down using a German reeling machine from the 1960s, which gives us 20 skeins (in the case of KPPPM) making a Koigu dyelot. All our yarn is hand dyed, by either Taiu and Kersti or our other in house local dyer. Our dying is not mechanized, nor does it include large vat systems which are often found in industrial dying.

Why doesn’t my yarn look like the photo online?

One of the wonderful parts of hand-dying is that each dyelot is inevitably one of a kind, and therefore incredibly hard to recreate. Some of the aspects which can alter our duding is the mood of the dyer, the weather and the water considering we are on hard well water. While we do our very best to ensure consistency, we can not guarantee this.
