Our favourite thing about this time of year is the sudden explosion of beautiful markets everywhere! Holiday markets in the countryside near the Koigu farm as well as in our family’s cultural home Estonia, are merrily full of local artisans, cozy handicrafts, twinkle lights, mulled wine and fun in the snow!

It may seem simple, but everyone is familiar with those pesky garments that are an awkward shape and you just can't seem to figure out how to fold nicely. Triangle scarves and shawl are one of those things! Taiu Landra, owner of Koigu, herself admits to not knowing how to nicely fold them until a few years ago, despite knitting countless triangle scarves over the years.
As discussed in our previous post, its not always easy imagining colours together especially knit up in a pattern or stitch that you haven't tried before. Starting a big project right off the bat can be nerve wracking because of this, not wanting to spend countless hours and skeins on a colourscape and pattern you're not thrilled about. So, naturally, making a little tester (a swatch) helps!

The Koigu farm is nestled down a side road in Southern Grey County Ontario, Canada. The farm's landscape of rolling hills, pond, bush and fields create a beautiful canvas for creation. One of the many reasons why Maie Landra originally purchased the farm 45 years ago was the inspiration she drew from it, whether that be for her pen and ink drawings, tapestries or even the begining of the dying process. Colour and inspiration can be felt throughout the Koigu Farm and area.
Canada's celebration of 150 years has put a spotlight on the beautiful and varied landscape which Canada is built on.
Translating a landscape to canvas or even the painting of yarn is up to the creator's interpretation. We have gathered photos together which we believe show the most iconic and stunning aspects of our farm, many of which are sunsets! It’s easy to see Koigu’s surroundings reflected in our yarns, colours and garments.
Koigu Summer 6K contest is open to anyone over the age of 13. A prize will be given to six random contestant, and will include 5 skeins of Koigu Lace in summer shades.
Enter before July 3rd and winners will be announced that day!
